| Joe's dad's 60th birthday party. It was crazy!!! Five tables and 11 courses, including lobster, abalone, scallops, pork, jellyfish, fried rice, soup, etc- I can't even remember it all. There was also a huuuuge delicious cake =)
Some of the kids at the "head" table // toast to the birthday man
Our table // toast to dad
After dinner, right before we left the restaurant // Steph and Tammy (also the cutest picture ever!!)
Happy Birthday, Mr. Chow!!!

| I know I haven't updated in FOREVER, but it's been a super busy summer so far with a new job and painting/remodeling the new house so we can move in by the end of August (hopefully).
Butters turned one year old on June 12, so we threw him a birthday party. Ironically, we had chocolate cake. He fell asleep while we were taking pictures. View right outside my lab at SeaWorld: I love the place. My bosses are super nice, the view is gorgeous, I get to see the "behind the scenes" stuff at the SeaWorld Park, and get to see dolphins :) Hope you guys are having a wonderful summer!!! I can't believe it's only been 2.5 weeks of summer so far. I'll be back with updates about the new house. I spent 12 hours at the house on Sunday. Eek! | | |
| I'm trying to compile a list of books to read over the summer.
So far, I've purchased the Twilight Saga Boxed Set Collection
The Shining
The Little House on the Prairie Boxed Collection (Yeah, I know this is pretty juvenile, but I haven't read these books in FOREVER, and I grew up with these books. There are too many books in the Nancy Drew/Babysitter's Club/Boxcar Children series to collect them all!!! Does anybody remember those books, anyway??)
Do you guys have any other suggestions??

| Searching for a home to purchase is very, very difficult!! Joe, his family, and I have been looking at properties since late 2008. We finally found this house and purchased it. It's in a decent area with shopping centers just one block away, 10 mins from UCSD, and less than 10 mins away from all the Asian supermarkets (99 Ranch, Mitsuwa, Zion Marketplace). The only reason why I'm not more enthusiastic about it is because it's not in the area of San Diego I was hoping the house would be in (I was hoping for a house on top of a hill with a nice backyard view, despite the fact that it meant I would have to travel up and down the hill every time I wanted to go somewhere).
The house has a total of 2,746 square feet. Five bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. Master bedroom #1: 23 x 15 ft Master bedroom #2: 25 x 14 ft Bedroom #1: 13 x 10 ft Bedroom #2: 12 x 10 ft Bedroom #3: 10 x 10 ft

Living room #1: 16 x 12 ft Dining room: 12 x 12 ft Living room #2: 31 x 21 ft Kitchen: 12 x 10 ft (a little small)
Living room (it's so large I couldn't even fit the second window into the picture) We don't really know what to do with all this space because it's kind of unnecessary.

Joe's dad actually pointed out that the layout of the house isn't ideal. He says that the kitchen is usually towards the back of the house, but when you enter this one, the kitchen is right there to your left!! It was weird when I first looked at the house, but I didn't really pinpoint it. I came two more times afterward, and it didn't really cross my mind any of those times I was in the house, either. He says it would be awesome if we converted the kitchen into a minibar instead
I guess the house isn't in horrible condition, especially since nobody has occupied it since November 2008. There's definitely going to be repainting- what were the previous owners thinking with this butter + blue color?? Are they supposed to match, or create a pleasant contrast?? I've temporarily picked out the colors I want for each room. Joe thinks I'm going to change my mind by the time June rolls around when we're going to start the painting/remodeling, but I guess we'll see. We've both agreed on which type/color carpet to install in the bedrooms. And the kitchen is definitely going to have to go!!! I'm planning to have a completely new kitchen- floor, counters, cabinets, sinks and all.

Patio/Deck:
In the meantime, I'm still going to be searching for house #2 in a nicer area. Problem is, I've literally seen ALL available houses and they are either too small or pending sales. I haven't completely given up hope, though. Wish me luck!!
